A Father’s Day Gift that Means Something

June 6, 2019 in Living

I have always tried to be creative over the years when it comes to Father’s Day gifts.  When the children were younger, we made a range of gifts and cards which are still treasured today.  I did occasionally buy gifts but always looking for something different, something with meaning.  This year, thanks to Maps International, I found the perfect idea.

What about a gift that reminds someone of a place that is special to them?

Paris

Paris holds a very special place in my heart.  Well, in both our hearts.  I fell in love with Paris when I was studying in France many, many years ago and my love of France and all things French, inspired my then boyfriend to plan something really special. Unbeknown to me, he had planned a trip to Paris for the New Year and when I unwrapped my Christmas present, it was two tickets and a hotel booking for Paris.  I was beyond excited. The city of romance with the man I loved and to see the New Year in beneath the lights of the Eiffel Tower, it was too perfect for words.

Also unbeknown to me was that my husband was planning to propose at midnight beneath the Eiffel Tower.  We had the most incredible day, wandering around Paris, taking in my favourite sites.  A boat trip along the Seine rounded off the day perfectly and we went to take our place amongst the crowds to count down to the New Year.  The marriage proposal didn’t quite happen as planned.  The crowds around the Eiffel Tower were enormous and lively.  After midnight had passed everyone surged towards the Metro station and we got swept along with the crowds,  It was quite scary and in the end. we pulled away from the crowds and decided to walk back to the hotel.  Then it began to rain.  But it didn’t dampen our spirits.  Once back at the hotel and dried off, my husband proposed. It was the most amazing end to our Parisian adventure.

Of course, I said yes, and the rest, as they say, is history. It may have not quite gone the way my husband had planned, but it was incredible and we married the following year.
