How To Prepare For A Family Road Trip

August 28, 2019 in Living

With summertime upon us, perhaps your thinking of planning a road trip for you and your family? Those family road trips can be a super fun way to get to your vacation destination. Having said this, road trips can quickly turn into a nightmare if you aren’t prepared! With this in mind, let’s consider how you can be well prepared for a family road trip

Service your vehicle

Before you embark on a road trip, it’s always a good idea to make sure that your vehicle is in top working condition. Things like checking the tyre pressures can be done yourself; however, it’s always best to get a full service before you go on a long-distance journey. Taking a road trip in a car that isn’t in complete working order is not worth the risk. There are so many deals out there on second-hand cars that are in top working condition; from a used range rover sport to a second-hand volkswagen golf. If your car isn’t performing as well as you need it to, it’s better to postpone the trip until you have a car that is!

Bring some audiobooks

As a parent, you’ll know that kids need to be entertained during long car journeys! There are many ways that you can do this, one great idea being the use of audiobooks! You can spend a little time choosing stories that you think will engage your kids or if they are old enough, get them to help you choose. Listening to audiobooks can be both an educational and entertaining activity to keep your kids entertained on long car rides!

Bring enough food!

There’s nothing worse than being on a road trip with hungry (and therefore cranky) kids with nowhere to stop! Ensure that you don’t leave the house until you are well stocked with plenty of snacks and drinks for your kids. Bring the healthy stuff but add in treats too (because this will keep them better distracted)! You can get a mini-fridge in your car before you go on such journeys to keep things nice and cool. If there’s an opportunity to stop, it can be a great way to relax out of the car to have a picnic somewhere green!

Plan your journey thoroughly

You should make sure that you plan your route to the finest details before you set off; this should include everything from the route to traffic, weather conditions and stopovers. It’s too difficult to wing it on a road trip, and you won’t want to get lost or distracted. A lack of planning can increase the time it takes to get to your destination. Make use of a Sat Nav to help you with the route and a Car HUD to help keep your eyes on the road.

When it comes to a family road trip, you’ll have plenty of fun if you are well prepared and bring enough to keep your kids happy! Don’t forget to take a first aid kit in case of emergencies. You can also make a fun music playlist to get you and your family singing and dancing along the way!
