This can be an exciting time, and you may have been holding back in anticipation of sharing this news for quite some time now. But, the time has come, and you can finally let out the big secret.
How To Tell The World
You may be so tempted to rush to social media and post a photo of a scan, or of you holding your baby bump in a way to tell the world that you are about to have a baby. You should stop and think about that for a second. Make sure that you have told a few relevant people before you go ahead and do that. Your immediate family will need to know first, and, if you have a partner, make sure their family does too. Nobody wants to think that they don’t rank high enough in your life that you would not tell them yourself, and in-person ideally. If you haven’t told your work yet, you should also speak with your boss before you let the rest of the world know. Your employer will have legal obligations to carry out an expectant mother’s risk assessment for you, and they will also need to know details around maternity dates. While it is ultimately your news to tell, it is common courtesy to tell these people first hand, rather than letting them find it on their Facebook newsfeed along with your other four-hundred social media friends.
Have A Baby Shower
Baby showers have pretty much become the norm in the last few years. It’s a perfect chance to get all of your friends and families together before the baby is born. Life can get pretty hectic once you have a little one who needs your care and attention twenty-four-seven. Spending that bit of time with everyone together will be a nice chance to connect with everyone before life changes. Of course, your friends and family will no doubt want to visit you lots once your baby is born, but enjoying social time may become a rarity, especially immediately after giving birth.
You could host the party at your own home, or you may want to hire a venue if you have a lot of guests. Make sure you stock up on lots of baby shower party supplies, and you may even want to have a gender reveal as part of the party.
Having A Gender Reveal
If finding out the gender of your baby before they are born is important to you, then you might want to hold off and do this in front of your friends and family. Ask for your doctor or midwife to write down the sex of your baby and give it to you in an envelope. You can then find a creative way of revealing it to yourself and your guests at your party. One option would be to give the envelope to a cake maker and ask them to colour the centre of the cake to denote the baby’s sex.
