My daughter is nine and will be ten in a few months. I have been thinking about having the ‘period chat’ with her for a while. She is very mature for her age and having become aware that a couple of girls in the year above her starting their periods last year, I decided that it was a good idea to sit down and talk to her about it.
As she does with most things, she listened, asked a few questions and took it all in her stride. We are quite open about most things and I wanted her to feel prepared and also be able to talk to me about it. I decided that it would be nice to maybe put a few things together, some sanitary towels and things for her to keep somewhere in her bedroom for when the time came. Fortunately, Gift me Box contacted me about doing a review of their Gift Me Box Period Box and as soon as I saw it, I knew that it was the perfect thing.
The Gift me Box Period Box was the idea of a mum, who having talked to her own daughter about periods was searching for something to help her daughter feel prepared. As there weren’t many options, she decided to create one herself and I am really glad that she did.
Inside the box is a selection of things that are perfect to prepare for your first period. It contains 30 sanitary products. These are mostly sanitary towels of different sizes, shape and absorbency with a few tampons . I thought this was a great idea as to begin with, it can take a while to work out which size works for you, plus some days or nights, you need more protection than others. It is a good idea to introduce the idea of tampons as these can seem a bit daunting and you can explain how they work. All of these products offer an amazing selection to start off with for that first period and your daughter can experiment and see what works for her.
I also love the fact that each sanitary towel has a sticker on which easily shows the type of product it is, the absorbency and whether it has wings.
Along with the sanitary towels, there is also a period tracker inside the lid of the box along with some funny period themed stickers to help you keep track of your period for the first few months. This is such a great idea and a good habit to encourage so that they can feel prepared for their period each month.
If that isn’t enough, the Gift me Box Period Box also contains some lovely little treats which are perfect to make your daughter smile. Inside the box are some soap bath roses, a reusable mini hottie, chocolates, a reusable drawstring bag and a luxury face mask. All lovely things that will help your daughter feel better all round about her first period. Plus all of the treats are suitable for tweens or teens alike.
The gift box itself is a sturdy box with a magnetic clasp allowing it to be reused over and over. You could simply refill it at the end of each period and maybe even pop in couple of new treats too.
There are so many things I love about the Gift me Box Period Box. Firstly, it is just perfect to keep all of your period bits in ready for her first period and it gives both you and your daughter the reassurance that she is prepared. It enables you to have an open conversation with your daughter about periods and what is needed for them and helps them to feel more positive about the changes to come with some nice treats to look forward to when the time comes too.
I really do think that this is a fabulous product and priced at £22.99, I think it is reasonable too. Even though, I was gifted the product, I would definitely buy one of these boxes and will definitely be recommending them to friends.

Well done to your daughter for taking it all in her stride. That is very good value and I like the fact that it is a one-off that you can then reuse in your own way. I always think the period subscription boxes which cost nearly as much as that for a month are too much!
