Earlier this year, I introduced my daughter to the wonder that is Harry Potter. I read the books with my eldest son around the time the books first came out. We would wait for what seemed like a lifetime for the next instalment and then read the books in days. My older teen decided to make his Harry Potter journey alone, so I was thrilled to be able to read them one last time with my daughter.
She loved them. She hung on every word and every detail and I could see at the end of the final chapter, that same disappointment I felt that it was all over.
But what has remained is a love of all things Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts, so House of Spells is just the best website to find gift ideas for her this year. And what a brilliant name for a shop? House of Spells draws you in and makes you want to find out more.
House of Spells is in fact a shop in London but you don’t have to be in the city as they have a fantastic website with magical merchandise from not only Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts but also Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Frozen, Stranger Things and York Vikings.
For us, the first choice is Harry Potter. Having lived through Harry’s years at Hogwarts, my daughter is an avid collector of anything Harry Potter related and she absolutely loved the House of Spells Harry Potter Shop on the House of Spells website.
Our first stop was the wand shop. We already have a few key wands in this house and they are so beautiful and really authentic (apart from the actual magic bit of course). House of Spells have a huge selection to choose from and different types too. You can choose from lots of different character wands, wands in an Ollivanders box complete with velvet-feel interior and a decorative ribbon (we have one of these and they are really amazing) or maybe for a younger wannabe wizard, you can choose from a selection of toy wands.
I love looking at the different wands as the attention to detail is incredible.
Another obsession that my daughter has inherited from me is a love of bags and stationery and House of Spells seriously does not disappoint on this front either. Their bag selection is awesome with purses, tote bags, back packs and more. We particularly liked the house tote bags and my daughter has added the Gryffindor bag to her already quite long Christmas list.
The stationery selection is also amazing and we were sent a couple of items from the collection to see for ourselves. The Harry Potter Lightening Bolt A5 Notebook is rather cool. In ice white, the hard-backed notebook has a magnetic clasp in the shape of Harry’s glasses and inside each page is adorned with the initials ‘HP’ in the bottom corner.
My daughter also loved the Marauder’s Map with Banner Pen which is the perfect accompaniment to the notebook. This rather special pen has a magnetic banner that you pull out and it states ‘I solemnly swear that I am up to no good’.
This is great fun and my daughter loved the pull out banner.
If you are looking for mugs, cups or glasses, House of Spells have that covered too from mugs in the shape of Hedwig, mugs and glasses that colour change and even mugs for the different houses. There is a brilliant selection of mugs but I particularly like the bone china selection as these are a good size, yet delicate and perfect for that morning cuppa.
The Harry Potter Always Bone China Mug is a gorgeous mug with a tree with the word ‘always’ on the front and Harry Potter on the back. There is also a golden snitch on the inside at the top. There are three other bone china mugs; Hogwarts, Expecto Patronum and Quidditch and they would make a great set all together.
If you are a Harry Potter fan or have one to buy for, there is a strong chance that you will also love the Fantastic Beasts collection at House of Spells. They have wands, plush toys, jewellery, stationery and movie replicas. My daughter absolutely loved the Niffler in the movies and has been dropping hints about the very cute Niffler plush. However, she also loves the Bowtruckles and we were sent a Bendable Bowtruckle from the Fantastic Beasts collection.
You could have hours of fun with this little chap as he bends in all directions and you can stand him up or wrap him around things and we keep finding ours all around the house in different positions. It is quite funny and we are always wondering where he will turn up next.
We love House of Spells, they have such an amazing collection of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts merchandise and there really is something for every fan. My daughter is already planning her birthday and Christmas list for December and has found a few things that she really wants, so I know I will be shopping with House of Spells very soon.
