Blackpool Pleasure Beach
Starting off in the North of England, we should probably mention Blackpool Pleasure Beach. While this theme park is significantly smaller than the other choices on this list, it’s great fun and packed full of plenty of awesome rides. There’s even a whole land dedicated to the kids with their favorite Nickelodeon characters. Yes, this also means there are stores where you can buy plenty of merch. There are also some fantastic iconic rides here including The Big One and the suitably titled Icon. Icon is one of the first of its kind in the UK. It goes upsidedown with no harness over your chest. Despite this it is still completely safe and one of the smoothest roller coasters you’ll ever ride.
Legoland
Legoland is mainly suitable for younger kids, young families and pre-teens. However, there is enough here to keep older children a little interested. Particularly, if they still have an affinity for playing with Lego. Legoland is located in Windsor and is also home to the first paragliding simulation ride in the UK. This is similar to the Soarin’ ride that you might have been on at Disney World. Legoland also has some fantastic unique points of interest including entire towns made out of Lego.
Alton Towers
Alton Towers is the best of both worlds. There’s plenty of rides for teens, adults and young children. If you do have young children, then you can also get a discounted ticket which is great because you’ll be spending most of your time in Cbeebies Land. Alton Towers also is more like a resort with lots of different restaurants and entertainment options. The park is more remote than other possibilities and as such, the easiest way to get there is by car. If you stay in one of the local hotels, you can also visit the nearby Water Park. Alton Towers had some bad rep recently due to some nasty accidents involving their coasters. However, new safety measures are now in place. Thorpe Park
Finally, you might want to take a trip to Thorpe Park. A short train ride from the centre of London, this can be considered the sister themepark of Alton Towers. They even have some of the same rides, albeit with different names and theming. People often wonder which theme park is better. While Thorpe Park is more compact, many would argue that the theming at this park is a cut above Alton Towers. It also has a more impressive water ride that is guaranteed to get you soaked. This makes it perfect for summer days. Of course, if you want a weekend trip, Alton Towers has a little more to see and do. Particularly, for younger kids.
As you can see, there are some great theme parks to visit across the UK and some aren’t even on this list. For instance, Drayton Manor has one of the tallest drop towers and one of the only roller coasters where you stand while riding.
