Imaginary friends are a funny old thing. They suddenly materialise one day out of nowhere and they quite literally become part of the family and as parents you find yourself catering for, cuddling and looking after this non-existent person. My imaginary friend was Bungo from the children’s TV show Rainbow. Looking at pictures of him now, he is enough to give you nightmares but for months, maybe even years, Bungle and I were inseparable. I was an only child and I was always hideously jealous of everyone having siblings, so I am guessing that may have been the reason.
L obviously isn’t an only child but we had an imaginary pal alongside him for a few months. He was a little boy called Josh and was loosely based on a boy that L had swimming lessons with. He appeared one day and then disappeared another just as quickly. There was no rhyme or reason but he made an impact on us all and every now and then L will reminisce about him as though he really had existed.
But we have a new addition to the family and he is A’s new boyfriend.
The American accent is still going strong (I blame her brothers’ obsession with Disney Channel for that) and she has decided that she now goes to ‘college’ (always said in an American accent) and has a little bag with pens and paper in to take with her.
Having come back from ‘college’ one day, she announced that she had brought home her boyfriend and his name was Jack Hood. The boys ribbed her mercilessly about this of course but not to be put off, Jack Hood has made several appearances so far. He has had a few meals with us and apparently he loves the things that A doesn’t to eat, especially anything green. He has stayed for a few weekends with us and A has little imaginary conversations with him in her American accent. Who knows where this all came from? Maybe the college thing is something to do with starting school?
I’m sure it will pass but for the moment, A loves Jack Hood and he loves her so there (although I think Daddy might have a few things to say about that)

I love the American accent since I am american. Lol it’s always weird for me to hear my kids talk in an English accent. I think it’s cute it’s from disney channel. Some of my friends kids talk in American accents too so it seems to be the new norm here. Lol so funny about boyfriend too!! Thanks for hosting this weeks wot so Funee!!!
My 4 year old insists on talking in an American accent and I too blame the Disney channel! I love the fact that the imaginary boyfriend is referred to by his first and second names, very cute!

Very handy that he likes to eat veg. I might get myself an imaginary boyfriend that likes to do ironing…
Thanks for hosting (and that American accent puts in an appearance here every so often – I hate it)!
Awwww bless her, so cute! We haven’t had then yet, although S is obsessed with a toy rabbit.

I used to have an imaginary friend and we still joke about her to this day 🙂 Kids’ minds are a fascinating thing!

My two-year-old daughter already has an imaginary friend! She’s unsure of the gender, but this person is the reason for Gwen taking aaages to get into her car seat – she insists on letting her friend in first.

This is so funny! I love that she speaks in an American accent and goes to “college”. I haven’t had this phenomenon yet. Mine do think they are Jedi knights, though, and are in character most of the time…

That’s so cute! My daughter had eight or nine imaginary friends at one time. Luckily they weren’t around too much – they mainly came to the house to be naughty. One day four of them died, which made life a lot easier.

Oh that’s cute. We’ve not yet reached the imaginary friend stage, but my brother used to have a friend called Charlie Harry, and I had a dog called Sandy – no idea why, as I was scared of dogs as a child.
Funny things, their imaginations
