Meanies!

June 17, 2013 in Reviews

This summer we decided that we would see if any of us had green fingers and we bought a few plants and seeds along with one of those little plastic hot houses and we have spent a few weekends planting and growing a few veggies and herbs along with some strawberries and flowers.

It has proven to be a real success and whilst a few of the plants have been killed with kindness (over zealous watering!) it has been a nice family activity.
We were lucky enough to be sent a few children’s gardening tools for a review  and A loved them along with a few older ones that we found in the shed.  I put all if her tools in the bottom if the hothouse tucked away out of sight.
Imagine my dismay at finding this weekend that they had been stolen along with a shovel of my husbands.  So someone had come into our garden had a good poke around in our hothouse and made off with a set of brightly coloured children’s gardening tools.
I feel so angry about this; why would you steal from a child?  Is that the sort of world that we live in? I can ‘understand’ adult tools; I’m not happy about this either you understand, but children’s things? It is wrong and whoever it was is just mean.
We are lucky and we can replace them, but that is not the point.  Talking to people about this at school, it seems that  it is common with stories of stolen garden toys, children’s bikes and one family had even lost a trampoline!  A trampoline? How on earth would you get away with that?
I have lost a little bit of my faith in humankind this weekend and it is very sad that we have to keep everything under lock and key just in case, and even then there’s no guarantee it’s safe!
A will get over it but summed it up very well when I explained to her what had happened as she said that whoever took them were ‘big smelly meanipegs’.  Well said that girl.
