Oh yes another recipe book for my already enormous collection. Parragon’s Make, Bake, Cupcake – the recipe book is a stunning book and if you have children, I can guarantee that they will also love this book not only are there some brilliant and very clever cupcake recipes inside, it is a really lovely to look at too.
Make, Bake, Cupcake takes the basic cupcake and turns it into something very special. There are cocktail and mocktail cakes, fun character cakes, scary cakes, cute cakes, cakes with hidden surprises and even cakes with unusual flavour combinations. The book is very visual and filled with colourful photos of the different cakes. The recipes are clear and easy to follow and often include photos to show the steps you need to follow to create your cupcakes.
The cakes are amazing and I was astounded at what can be done with the simple cupcake. A has been completely obsessed with this book since it arrived and so this week, we finally had a chance to have a go at one of the recipes. We (I) chose the Rainbow Cupcakes as they looked like they would be fairly straight forward to put together with a very impatient three year old as a helper.
We had great fun making the cake batter and then dividing it up and adding the different colours.
The one thing I will say about the recipes is that they do take time to put the cakes together, but it is worth the effort. We were pleased with our first effort and they might not look exactly like the photo in the book, but they are unusual and taste lovely.
Make, Bake, Cupcake is a really lovely book. It would be great for parties or celebrations such as Halloween and children will love ‘helping’ make these cakes as they are all so different and colourful. A and I are going to try lots of these over the next few weeks and A is very keen to make Belly-up Bear Cupcakes, but we may have to work up to those.
