My Five Favourite Posts

November 5, 2016 in Blogging

When I first started blogging five years ago, I can still remember the feeling when I published my first few posts and watched in amazement when a few people actually read them.  When I say a few, I really do mean a few but it spurred me to continue and what a journey it has been.  Five years later and I am still blogging. There have been ups and downs. Times when I love blogging.  There have been some of the most incredible experiences.  There have been posts that have been received and enjoyed.  There has been the wonderful discovery of a network of people online who are supportive and understanding.  But there have been some lows.  Times when I was ready to press delete and walk away from it all.

One thing that five years of blogging has taught me is that I love writing.  And I love writing for me.  Whether I am writing about my family or something totally random that has happened, I love it.  As the years have passed, I have worried less about the stats and found more of a balance between life and blogging and now I am in a pretty good blogging place.

When I first started blogging, it was all about the linkys.  It was a great way to get your blog seen and commented on by others and to read other people’s posts and catch up their lives.  One of my favourites was Kate Takes 5’s Listography which gave us an excuse to pick five favourite things in different categories and explain why.  To celebrate two impressive blogging milestones, Kate has resurrected Listography this week asking us to share five of our favourite posts and I couldn’t resist the excuse to go back through my blog and pick out the posts that mean the most to me.

Tales from the washing line

A reflective post about the changes in my family over the years that was randomly inspired by looking out at my washing line one day.

I don’t speak tween

With two tweens in the house, I sometimes feel like I need to learn a whole new language; tween talk!

Make them go … (to bed)

I’m still not sure if this post was a moment of genius or insanity but I rewrote my daughter’s favourite song, Let it go, as an ode to making my children go to bed.

Things you never want to hear your child say

A collection of things that you really never want to hear and a few conversations that are best avoided.

What has 21 years of parenting taught me?

I wrote this post a few weeks ago on the eve of my eldest son’s 21st birthday. I’m no expert on this crazy game we call parenting, but there are a few things that I have picked up here and there.

So there you have it, my five favourite posts so far.  Thank you to Kate for giving me a good excuse to go rummaging some old posts and reminding myself of the good bits.

Post about being a parent for many many years always resonate with me – almost all of mine are grown up now but they still need a parent – we maybe just don’t parent them in the same way we used to. Great Listography!!
